How to clean Invisalign® and compression gutters ?

A recurring question in my patients treated with Invisalign® because according to patients, gutters do not get dirty in the same way and more quickly ! Here is the explanation and the action to take.

Did you notice that your Invisalign® gutters are starting to become YELLOW or LIMESCALED ? Especially when you have to wear your gutters for longer because either new gutters are being manufactured, or by simple recommendation of your orthodontist, or because they are compression gutters !

What you eat and drink and the minerals in your saliva create an environment that damages your Invisalign or restraint gutters.

We will show you how to professionally clean Invisalign® with some household products at home, when brushing alone or dental prosthesis cleaning tablets are no longer enough to revive them.

  • If your Invisalign® gutters / contention are yellowish (only colored) :

* Hydrogen peroxide (the main ingredient)

* Sodium bicarbonate

* Hot water, small bowl and brush

Instruction manual : in a bowl, use 50% warm water, 50% hydrogen peroxide, a few tablespoons of baking soda and a brush. It will take several minutes to a few hours to get a clarification.

For restraint gutters : you can soak them at night if they are very dirty and you have another pair of gutters in the meantime.

  • If your Invisalign® gutters are scaled, encrusted :

* Distilled white vinegar (5% acidity is the main active ingredient).

* Small bowl of warm water

* Toothbrush

Manual of use : you have tried to brush for weeks without any improvement. The key is to let your gutters soak for 20-30 minutes in 50% warm water and 50% vinegar before brushing them. You will notice that you are not removing all the minerals encrusted in the first round.

REPEAT STEPS until the desired result is achieved.

Good luck!

Ps : some say to avoid vinegar because of taste. It’s momentary. Refresh them with denture cleaning tablets or mouthwash.
